Hello,

My name is Carey Nichols and I am currently helping the American Canoe Association conduct a brief overview of whitewater paddlesport accidents. This summer, I am attempting to run some analysis on paddlesport accidents as a whole, with specific focus on the differences between whitewater enthusiasts and paddlers at large. I have created a quick and easy survey using Google Documents that will take about 3 minutes for most people to fill out. There are instructions on the survey, but the most important part is you will NEVER be contacted or have to share any identifiable information; this survey is 100% anonymous!!

If you have a moment, please help us out by sharing your experiences here:

I will be keeping any eye on this forum post if people have any questions, and I thank you for your responses in advance, they are instrumental in helping us paint a better picture of whitewater sport accidents and safety. If you don't mind passing that link along to your other paddlefriends it would do me a huge favor!

Thank you for your time, and see everyone on the water!
Carey

Tried to fill out the survey, but it is poorly designed, and I could not finish it.

madmike - Sorry you had some trouble, was there anything in specific that wasn't working for you? Let me know and I can do my best to fix it. I appreciate you at least taking a look!

Sometimes Google Docs does strange things, but this was hands down the best free and easily accessible "quick-survey" option....

I have not injured myself, and did not know how to answer the many questions about my injuries. My conclusion is that, not being injured, I should not participate. My results might mess up the data.

madmike,

Good catch, some other folks around the net were also pointing that out early this morning. Only a few people that I had test the survey had completed it by that point, so I added in the option to select "no injury" for many of the questions.

Please don't feel like your awesome streak of non-injury shouldn't be included. Your experiences are data just like everyone elses, and we are interested in a real picture of what's going on out there.

Let me know if you have other questions, but please keep in mind this specific survey is by no means intended to be an "end all," but instead a means to get a quick glance at the whitewater community without handing out flyers at the rivers edge.

Thanks again for your interest!

Survey worked good for me. I'm sure everyone has had some type of injury now that you have added abrasions If not.. then they must be boating in a bubble!

My 7 and 8 year old kids paddle class II whitewater. Would you like me to complete a survey for each of them as well?

(OK, I am really proud that hey have paddled Errol rapids with grace and success, and yes, I am telling everyone!)
