Napatree point at Watch Hill may be okay. Beach is real mellow, any surfers are to your left, but you could have some action at Napatree.
Parking is $20 on the hill by the carousel, then go thru the parking lot past the carousel, other side from the "pay" beach, on the harbor side. Walk down the side with the boats(Watch Hill Yacht Club, bring some Grey Poupon)), then catch one of the breaks in the dunes to get to the beach side.
The main beach is accessable up the hill, then down the path thru the rosa rigosas "surf your own beach" grafitti is pretty prominent here, so I'd stick with napatree if bringing a kayak. Nothing like rich white ghetto punk surfers to make me laugh.

I'm a local to deep hole and you shouldn't have any problems with board surfers (I mostly board surf). Just don't go out into the middle of the peak on a packed day.

East Matunuck is not really a good surf spot but its a great beach to just hang out on. If there are decent waves it gets dumpy which isn't particularly fun in a boat. Best bet would be Narragansett after 6 and just pick a peak where there aren't a bunch of surfers (they probably won't give you grief because the usual crowd isn't that talented).
Good Luck

I have paddled on Block every year (except this year) for the last decade: Nice surf depending on conditions...but finding an access point is the issue. I have seen some of the larger waves off South-East Lighthouse but you will have to walk down 1,000 stairs with a boat. The North Light parking is right on the water, Mansion beach tends to have good surf...town beach is easy access but I haven't found very rideable waves as it is very shallow.

Don't bother at napatree. There no Good break there. It's always closed out. No offense matt.

none taken, erik. I'm just figuring it's quiet and a good place to hang with the family (ice cream/carousel), with any wave action being a distant second. I gave up body surfing to the left (surf your own beach) area after a storm eroded the beach several years back. Figure it's a spot to dip a blade and real mellow crowd wise. Even Block started to tick me off the last couple of years, so Montauk has become my new beach to tempt bodily carnage at. Headed back there in a week and a half with my sailboat and son. Damn jellyfish got ridiculous last few years, too.

Sound like something I would see posted on NESURF. According to the multiple personalities that haunt that site there is no surf anywhere in RI, ever, and to check out Mystic.

Yeah, Mystic surf is awesome, especially when the Whaler cranks up their diesel.

Thanks!!! Yeah, I've walked down to Mohegan Bluffs, not sure I want to carry a boat down there, esp. with all the foot traffic, but we'll see how it looks.
