Does anyone have a good resource for making a rescue tow tether or cow tail? I believe that it can be made for a lot less than it can be purchased and be much safer.

Thank you for the help!

Buy some webbing and a carabiner. Maybe go with tubular webbing and slide a bungee inside it. What do you see as safety issues with the ones on the market? I have been using an Astral tow tether for almost ten years now and have never had a problem with it. My only suggestion would be that if you intend to wear it outside of a pocket go with a locking carabiner and a short enough piece of webbing that you and your gear don’t get tangled in it.

I like to use 5-6mm prussic cord, tied into 2 prussic loops of different lengths. You can use either, or both, and this is stuff you need anyway for a pin kit. Also a locking biner.

I use prussic cord and a locking ‘biner. I loop the cord through so that I can use it at two different lengths. I will try to remember to post a photo.

Thank you all. Went with 2 locking biners, climbing sling with loops sewed at each end, stored in a Timbuk2 3way. It fits super nicely on the belt of the rescue vest out of the way and ready for use.
