Hey everyone. Super excited to be apart of the forum and the npmb family. So I live in Pittsburgh. I did the rental rafting probably 15-16 times now. I always look forward to the warm months to go out again. I decided to buy my own raft/gear to save money in the long run. My issue is that I’m 6’7″and I lift a lot which makes me top heavy. Because of this I never had luck with kayaks in the past due to flipping and limited leg room. I was thinking about going with an inflatable kayak because they seem more stable and I drive a compact car so it’ll be easier to transport. Am I on the right path with that? Also is it hard to find buddies to go with if mine aren’t able to.
I just want to do it recreationally. Do some white water and maybe cross the Atlantic one day one man one paddle one lunch box. Who knows. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and again I am very honored to be a part of the npmb family.

If you’re Pittsburgh PA you should check out the local whitewater club, Three Rivers Paddling Club. They have a website w/ forum, but it seems that all the discussion these days is on their Facebook page. They’re an active group, mostly kayakers, but some rafters, Shredders etc. The FB page name is ‘TRPC’.

Good luck.

You may or may not fit in the larger solo IKs like an AIRE lynx, outfitter or the tomcat. You will definitely fit in the tandem versions. If you are looking into IKs thats the way I would go.
