From a public notice posted on a family member’s facebook page:

Jamie McEwan, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014, surrounded by his beloved family. He fought the bravest fight anybody could fight, but in the end the cancer was too much for his body – even though his spirit was strong to the end.

Jamie will be greatly missed by the many paddlers whose lives he touched.

Heartfelt condolences to Jamie’s family.

Nice NEPMB article from last year. I’ll add Jamie inspired a generation of paddlers, especially C Boaters like Lugbill, the Hearns, Kent Ford in the 80’s and then many New England C boaters. For years he (along with other HACKs) maintained the Falls Village slalom course as a US Team Training site and (I believe) leased The River House for racers to live/crash in. As Bob P posted last year he was instrumental in starting the New England Triple Crown at T’vlle in 2008. A leader and a legend but nicest of guys- friendly even to a rank amateur like me. What an honor to sit in the same eddy, just once, with someone like Jamie McEwan

Please keep Tom McEwan Jamie’s brother in your thoughts and prayers – he was seriously injured running great falls on Friday.
