Information from Zoar Outdoor:

Unfortunately we have some bad news for this weekend. We just found out there will not be a Dryway release this Saturday or Sunday due to a collapse of the structure under the wooden part of the mill building at the put-in. As far as Brookfield knows right now the Fife Brook section will run as normal this weekend. Here’s the email we received from the power company 20 minutes ago:

Great River Hydro, LLC is alerting you that due to a substantial failure of the embankment rock wall that was located beneath the former wooden structure portion of the Glassine mill, currently being demolished, this weekend’s whitewater releases at our Number 5 Dam (BOTH Saturday and Sunday) are cancelled. Great River Hydro is not directly involved with the demolition or remediation activity but is managing flows to facilitate remediation.

The result of the embankment failure has placed a significant amount of material into the Deerfield River at the base of the site. Contractors, environmental engineers and state officials are evaluating the site to coordinate emergency remediation to prevent further collapse, reduce the potential for additional material entry into the river, and remove material presently in the river. At this point, given the substantial material in the river and the possibility that high flows (i.e. whitewater release levels) could further exacerbate the situation, causing further failure of the remaining embankment and material, and/or put workers on-site at risk, Number 5 Dam white water releases are cancelled for June 17 and June 18.

We will endeavor to keep you apprised of the situation at the site and when we will be able to return to our whitewater release schedule. At this point we cannot predict if additional white water releases will need to be cancelled. Please pass this notification on to other whitewater enthusiasts that would be interested in this cancellation to the extent you can.
