I'll be passing through NY, VT, MA, and NH (not Maine, unfortunately). Which rivers should I hit up? Interested in anything class IV-V, although if it's III/IV, that's cool too.

The Dryway release is on my radar and it looks like the Hudson gorge section might be in (but I'm not familiar with the logistics). What else should be on my list?

Thanks!

Yes, The Dryway will be running the 4,5,6 and then the 12th. Absolutely head there, you will find plenty of people that can give you a heads up about the best lines, etc. If you haven't been, its fairly short, so most people plan on at least 2 runs. Note that there is some construction happening on the side of the river near the put-in so access can be tricky on Fridays when they are working. Unfortunately, aside from heading to Maine, the rest of the rivers are natural flow. Likely to be running would be T-ville in CT and the Pemi Play hole at the end of the Pemi Bristol section. With rain, options like the West Branch Westfield (MA), West Branch Deerfield (VT), Bulls Bridge section of the Housatonic (CT) are pretty popular.

I would check the facebook groups Where's the Whitewater At? and Merrimack Valley Paddlers, as they are more active than NPMB.

Right now the Hudson Gorge is dependent on a release from Lake Abenakee and is on a consistent schedule. I believe Tues., Thurs., Sat & Sun. The Indian, the 1st 3 miles of the 17 mile trip, is pretty wild but only rated class 3+ unless the water is really high. The rest of the river is class 3 @ most. Fairly easy shuttle setup. You could probably connect with boaters at the put-in. Schenectady chapter of the Adirondack Mtn Club has a dedicated WW group that does the run often. We ran it the last 2 Saturdays. Their schedule is online if you search.

I think you hit the two places with releases and III+ rapids. It's mtb season unless we get a hurricane.

Edit: Black River, Watertown NY

WTF?
